HTML5Patch.org is a resource linking to projects that provide patches for non HTML5 compliant browsers as fallbacks for missing HTML5 functionality.

It's my hope that through the use of these patches, we can start developing HTML5 based sites and applications right now.

Patches are more commonly referred to as shims, shivs and more recently polyfills. The term polyfill was coined by the legendary Remy Sharp using it in a presentation in the Spring of 2010 and was made more popular by the equally legendary Paul Irish in his presentation to jsconf.eu the following Summer. Incidentally Paul has put a together a comprehensive list of HTML5 Cross browser Polyfills of his own. Johnathan Cook also maintains a list of shims on his site HTML5-shims.

It is fantastic to see the validation of this concept by leading figures in the web development community, and even better to see it brought to the attention of developers world-wide.

Truly inspired, and somewhat motivated I have decided to shift the focus of this site to provide a more comprehensive and better catogorized list of polyfills, splitting them into polyfills that you can just drop in to projects (without the need for additional coding) and those that provide the raw potential to polyfill.

It is my hope that as a community we can develop these polyfills and polyfill combinations, making it easy for us to move the web forward through the revolution which HTML5 will surely fuel.

Watch this space :)
